New European program in Cyprus for training and professional development on health issues for petroleum and natural gas installations
The work of the European project TWINNING EXPOSOGAS began successfully with a workshop open to the public, which took place at the Cyprus University of Technology premises on Thursday, September 6, from 9:30 to 13:00. The main objective of the European project TWINNING EXPOSOGAS is to strengthen the capacity of the Cyprus International Institute for Environmental and Public Health (CII), which is the coordinator of the project, to carry out research and promote the training and professional development of its researchers in health sector for workers in gas / petroleum products and neighboring populations using human exposome tools.
During the workshop, the main aim and the work packages of the project were presented, as well as the role of each partner. In addition, the Chairman of the Cyprus Hydrocarbons Company, Dr. Onoufriou, presented the evolution and the existing status of hydrocarbon extraction in Cyprus.
Representatives from the Fire Brigade, the State Laboratory and the Department of Labour Inspection attended the event and discussed issues of concern to the public regarding the activities of petroleum and natural gas.
Partners in the project are the CII, the Netherlands National Applied Scientific Research Organization (TNO) and the Institute of Professional Medicine in the United Kingdom (IOM). The project is financed by the EU TWINNING program. and lasts for 3 years.
